The Kurds were more or less allies in the Gulf war. So yeah, they were not Moslem enough apparently.

The Kurds got screwed as Kurdistan didn't get realized when the Allies carved up the Middle East after WWII. Unfortunately for them the Kurds' country would have had to come from larger well established nations and that wasn't going to play. That the Kurds are divided ideologically hasn't helped them either and it seems they had problems from a Saddam-era Iraq, Carter's Iran, and anyone's Turkey.

They are good fighters as evidenced recently, but in their History, they also claim Saladin.

Kurds exist in northern Iraq, Southern Turkey and Syria I think. If numbers are large enough, they threaten all these countries land mass. I do know they would like and in my opinion, deserve their own territory. That is the threat. Maybe a result of master planning after WWII? I do not know.
