The Dirigible LZ 129 "Hindenburg" explodes, burns and crashes as it approaches the mooring mast at NAS Lakehurst NJ. Killed in this disaster are 22 air crewmen, 13 passengers and 1 ground crewman
My grandfather was a 13 year old kid when he saw that happen in 1937. 7 years later he would turn 20 years old just 4 days after landing at Omaha Beach.
Hell of a 20th birthday for your grand dad. My salute to him.
