Clinging to my current opinions and ideas because it’s comfy and I’m used to being there and if it turns out there are truths I did not know my entire world view might have to change and that would be horrid and dreadful and frightening
Invested in being the Smart One who knows everything and wanting to keep my self-images as the Smartest Person in the Room/on the thread
Fearing being “wrong” and having to admit “I was wrong, I didn’t know” as it will be humiliating and thus my false ego gratification will be hampered
And thus refusing to ever admit “I was wrong” by never looking at other options, ideas, sources of possible info because it might make cracks in the wall of my All-Knowingness and then the others in the club of All-Knowingness will be mean to me just as I was to others outside the club
Enjoying the hatred and acrimony against others who think differently and getting lots of jollies by criticizing the awful “others” in various ways, iow - sadism
