“I have a great story about the 49ers Tavern”

Hahaha, I’m sure my buddy has some too. He couldn’t stay out of the 49er Tavern, he never did finish that Zoology degree. Fortunately computers came along and he did real well with IT.

As long as we are talking about Long Beach State: Who remembers the LONG BEACH BANJO, FIDDLE and GUITAR FESTIVAL?

The event was an amateur contest in the morning/afternoon and professional acts in the evening. I attended twice and worked on the committee twice. The shows were renowned for having still little known people who soon became major stars. As I recall:

1981: Bonnie Raite and John Stewart with Norton Buffalo, Joe Ely and Guy Clark

1980: Doc Watson and Jerry Jeff Walker with Robert Earl Keene, Steve Earle, Jimmy Dale Gilmore

1979: Kenny Rogers and Linda Ronstadt with John Prine and Delbert McClinton

1978: Jimmy Buffett and ???

There were others and likely I have the lineups mixed up (the memory is the second thing to go, and I forget the first).

Can anyone shed some light: Other acts or the line ups?
