That is absolutely not true. Many Indians spoke English, French and their native language. Your post is very ignorant.
To me it’s clear he meant “as their native tongue before the French came to North America”.

You are right in that many "Indians" spoke English, French, and their native tongue. Some, (Comanche and Apache for two) also spoke Spanish.
You are wrong in that my post is very ignorent. It is not even a little ignorent. I speak of times before the pale skins came to the land of the people and took the buffalo without permission.
During that time, they did not "count coup." They did not "count coup" because they didn't speak French or English. The did what they did and called it with the red man's words.
This is science and is not in dispute. To argue against me is the very definition of ignorent.
