My “Depression Era” Parents NEVER spoiled me.

- Never asked me what I’d like for Dinner.
- Never gave me a Dollar.
- Never said I love you.
- Always had to help ourselves & others, then never hear a thank you.

Well, I had pretty much the same experience. But, we are the exception not the rule. If we look at populations, demographically parsed as generations, the obvious becomes obvious.

Wow, I think you just described every parent of the post war, 1950’s era. They were what I call the stoic parents. I’m still not sure how or why this phase played out, but I think it was an extraordinarily destructive period filled with a lot of quiet desperation and suffering.

When the kids of these parents had their own kids I think they over-compensated by raising their kids (true boomers) in a more self-indulgent manner.
