El Paso, Texas An 11 year old Texas middle school student was hit and killed today during the time of the National Walkout when he tried to cross the freeway Loop 375 in northeast El Paso. Though he was not actually participating in the walkout, he and another group of 12-15 students jumped the wall and left the campus during the walkout. It was a fatal mistake.
The students from Parkland Middle School took advantage of the National Walkout Day today to sneak off and do their own thing. Though a staff member was posted at the front and back doors of the school, the group of students left by a side door.
Jonathan Benko, 11, was struck by a Ford F150 on the busy freeway. Ysleta Independent School District officials are questioning the other members of the group that were with him, trying to determine why they left the sanctioned event. Hint: necause theyre kids, and thats what kids at that age do
whatever seems most exciting. The actual walkout ended at the football field.

Very sad.
Prayers up for his parents/family/friends.
I will admit. I’d walked out to. And kept walking. Away. From the sanctioned event. I mean, who would want to hang out with all those idiots anyway?
His blood is on the hands of the cynical leftists who run our so-called “educational” system.
Should we be calling for a ban on cars
Awww, that’s too bad.
Should have stayed in school.
Sad, just 11 years old.
We’re should ban sanctioned walk-outs, and raise the age for political speech to 21.
We’re? I hate my phone.
I have always believed the media exaggerates the importance of these student walkouts. Many of the students are just taking advantage of a chance to skip school without getting in trouble. It is what I would have done just like these kids—use the walkout to go do something you think would be fun.
This is what happens when schools are turned into political theater.
Yep. I would have walked out, probably partook in some activity not to be mentioned, and gone shootin.
I smell mega lawsuit coming....
Too cool for school.
“It is what I would have done just like these kidsuse the walkout to go do something you think would be fun.”
My sons would have done the same———and probably my daughters.
This damned walkout business has GOT to stop.

Why not???
You can just imagine what the Libs would be pulling if the kids were being let out of school to go to a Religious function..
We would be hearing all about how it is the responsibility of the SCHOOL to keep the ‘lil darlins’ safe when under the supervision/auspice of the SCHOOL.
And maybe just name the Principal, Superintendent, Teacher etal that AUTHORIZED this crap.
That may get the attention of these idiots.
Very sad for the family. Some parents would think about suing the school district for allowing this (poorly supervised) little holiday in the first place. I don’t know anything about this family.
His death was caused by the evil teachers’ unions and their political push against civil rights.
Heck, in the old days if the kid was to leave school there needed to be a signed note by the parent, chapparones, etc...
Now they just skip out and do whatever? Good grief.
My friend who was coming to see me saw the accident stopped and with a doctor who stopped gave him CPR, his injuries were devastating. Its a damn shame. Someone is going to own that school district. While the administration thought the had all the bases covered, they didnt. They didnt need to be out of school for stupid liberal crap.
