Dunno. Just know he died in 1969. Txhurl asked, not sure why. The line from Hotel California "We haven't had that spirit here since 1969" may be why he asked. Hilton was a big wig in this pedo thing with his hotels and....well, you get the point. Yes?
I have no idea, but it's an interesting connection, don't you think? Is that what you were thinking Txhurl?
Yes Sir, bagman, and I am reeling. Thank you.
“We haven’t had that spirit here since 1969”

1969=height of hippie movement in most of US. (was earlier in California, of course.)
“Hotel California” was written in 1976 & released in 1977.
Many of us oldsters will recall that by 1977 there was a split between what we now call stoners and the politicos that tried to co-opt Hippie. The real hipsters actually put Hippie to rest with a funeral in 1967.(!) Personally, speaking as a Midwesterner, it seemed to me the real hippies had disappeared by 1972 (YMMV)when Fonda was photographed on a propaganda tour in Vietnam. Looking back, thinking of all the culture-bending the clowns were involved in, I now wonder just how much of hippie culture was still organic and authentic by 1970-72.
This site proposes an explanation of the song with some quotes from Eagles members.
