I was walking one of my black and tan coonhounds last summer, and a couple came along with a German shepherd. Their dog clearly wanted to come over, so I asked if he was friendly, they assured me he was. As soon as the shepherd was close, he tried to latch onto the hound’s neck. For some reason I was expecting trouble and had the German by the neck real quick then proceeded to beat it in the back of the neck and base of skull. The stunned owners didn’t even react, they just stood there. The German was quite dazed, so I was able to remove my hound, and even after all that, my hound was still wagging his tail and wanting to play lol.
Had a pit try to attack my last black and tan years ago. The pit lunged, and the hound just folded on himself, I’ve never seen the likes, then the pit closed on empty air and before I could even say anything or move my hound had the pit by his neck pinned on the ground. He showed great restraint though and didn’t really hurt the other dog. I sure love those coonhounds heh. I’ve never seen such good dogs with kids, but when danger comes, they’re fierce protectors.
