I have read the NT many times, and I have never seen indications that Simon Peter could be accused of being a mean-spirited bully.

Disclaimer: I am not trying to start a theological argument, just a discussion on your statement.

John 21:20-22 could be an argument for Peter being mean-spirited. Because of John's faithfulness, Peter was feeling very conscious of his lack of faith and decided to lash out at John. Jesus rightly rebuked him for this. Remember, Jesus gave John the responsibility of taking care of His mother, and Peter was not there to be so blessed.

"Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved, the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supper and had said, 'Master, who is the one who will betray you?'

When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus said to him, “What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours? You follow me.”

OK, there are the verses you cited, in their entirety.

How is Peter being "mean-spirited"? How is he "lashing out" at John?

Just curious. I don't see anything like that in these verses.
