I am reminded of Katherine Hepburn's part in The Lion in Winter. At that level, the roles are not the same as the roles we proles play.

And I don't mean that to knock her (Barbara). With great power comes great responsibility, great temptation, and a view of the world/humanity that few people ever come to grasp.

-- A darn shame her husband didn't listen to her. --

Maybe he did. Who knows, and in the long run, it doesn't much matter. The way of the world is that the powerful rule. Sometimes well, usually mediocre, and sometimes bad.

I am in deep awe of the DoI and what it says; and at bottom it depends on nationalism. This principle, nationalism, has been under attack FOREVER. And past that, nations governed by the people? Heresy.

I think it matter to her if he listened. Nothing is more hurtful than sharing many years with someone and they didn't respect you. It would be a very lonely life.

I remember once on TV they had a special and Bush made a big deal out of giving her every color of Grasshopper shoes for her birthday. That remark has stayed with me. It made me see her as a dog happy for a scrap of food. Sad.
