I had two classes in antique Chinese art, and this is bringing back wonderful memories. It's amazing what you find online when you put in artist names in Chinese characters!

YouTube compresses the heck out of a video and that turns moves jerky. To download a copy of this video BEFORE YouTube did its thing, download the 226 MB video at:

http://www.iment.com/maida/tv/songvids/mp4/misc/Fine-Arts-Wang-Ximeng-YTV-V19.mp4

The videos are zipped. I unzip with a double click and play them with VLC.

The full set of downloadable Fine Arts videos are at:

This is quite stunning, when compared with the Western painting and music of the same time. Makes one wonder whether the effect of the Dark Ages is still with us, infecting everything. Why was central Africa so far behind in accomplishment than Egypt? Why has it remained so?

The utube art w/Baez video was also quite captivating. I had no idea that she performed stuff of that nature.

Mary,

Thank you for another wonderful treat. Is the instrument playing the “Erhu” (one-stringed instrument)? Beautiful harmony between the images and the music you chose. I enjoyed it.

The painting appears to be the Guilin's karst mountains on the Li River. When I was working in Yunnan Province, some of the other westerners in the plant took tours of various sites in China and many went to Guilin. Today, "the scenery is easy to see by tour boat and is noted for the moodily sculpted hills and green landscape. It is the most popular karst scenic region in China. Many of the famous paintings of the Ming and Qing era were of these weathered hills." From The Four Best China Karst Landscapes for Tourists.

Gorgeous ! Genius ! A Prolific Prodigy !

Tragedy ! In that probably 99 %+ of us living in the “West” don’t have a clue masterpieces like this exist. I, myself, while certainly not being an art scholar do appreciate the fine arts, yet, while I appreciate oriental art I had no idea of such a Herculean feat by someone of such youth.

Tragedy ! Imagine what Wang Xmeng could have done had he lived another 50 years or so.

Music ! Excellent, as always. I’ve always been fond of traditional Indian music since I first heard Pandit Ravi Shankar back in the 60’s and I appreciate traditional Japanese and Chinese music as well. I discovered the Guzheng from the scene in Red Cliffs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3SIC6RGKBk

Kudos ! to you for putting together another fine video exploration of the artistic world for us.

Kudos ! also for providing a download link so we didn’t have to suffer from the attack of the UTube jitteritus.

! Thank you !
