My standard American bulldog bit my then 10 year old in 2012

He had 11 stitches

And we had several deputy interviews and hospital reports

Had the wound required over 24 hour hospital stay the dog would have been euthanized by the county

Had I been home I likely would have shit the dog, I’ve put down dogs before

My son begged me not to

I gave the dog to a breeder and he lived out his days as a sire for American bulldogs in France

A champion

Not a good family dog though

I’ve owned many big guard type breeds since the 60s

A number have nipped folks here and there but that was the only real wound ever

Truly the dog that bit my granddaughter had no chance. He was often chained to the outside deck post, while sleeping in the kitchen to stay warm. He was a rescue, the previous owners had inexpertly “docked” ears and tail. I was told that he just bit, no shaking occurred. He just took a bite and pulled back calmly. My daughter was one step away and there was not even a bark or a growl. It was like the dog had scratched an itch. No rancor or intent. He just took a bite. Of course his head was huge, and his mouth could hold a soccer ball.
