What is it with grown men adopting 7th grade nicknames....The Process??? Sounds like something from Jersey Shore....and on about that same level.
The Process isn’t a nickname for a person. When the team was tanking to acquire draft picks to rebuild, the GM at the time told the fans and the organization to “trust the process” (of building a winner). When the process hit a few bumps in the road, he was fired and the term was used derisively about his efforts and the about team as a whole.
This year, the team has shown signs of being good, including a 16-game winning streak to end the season. The players really never stopped buying in to the process, even though it took longer than everyone hoped.
Two weeks before the playoffs, the best player on the team caught an elbow to the face and will have to wear a mask when he returns. The mask brought to his mind the Phantom of the Opera; he tweeted a photo of the mask he has to wear with the caption “Phantom of the Process.” I thought it was pretty funny and clever. I’m a Celtics fan, so I have no love for the Sixers, but I appreciate what the team has gone through and how good they have become.
“The Process” is Jason Garrett’s crutch phrase.
Drives me nuts.
