One more photo for Eric of the Ozarks cold frame with his tomatoes. He will be along shortly to tell us how far apart they are planted...

Hey thanks for posting the pix.
The Amish paste variety tomatoes are aligned in the picture because a wire fence will be inserted between the two rows. The tomatoes are indeterminate, meaning they keep growing through the growing season, thus needing something to cling to. I'll wait to put the fence in once the cool weather is done with and I can remove the frost blankets. I did notice the leaf edges do show a touch of frost from the 30 degree night earlier this week. The plants look OK. The left side of the raised bed is open for something surprising...

Howdy! Here in Saratoga NY it’s going to snow this afternoon. Just a little bit, but still.... how are you all coping with the extended winter?

I’ve got a question about yards and ground cover, I hope someone around here can help.

We acquired an auxiliary dog (of unknown parentage) in October, and the tiny puppy is now an 8 month old, 90 pound, God-only-knows-what.

Between the 2 the yard is overwhelmed and every blade of grass is gone.

For months I’ve been trying to find an alternative ground cover, and although there may be some creeping stuff that might survive I don’t think it would have a chance to take root.

I’m at the point where I have $800 worth of artificial grass rug in my Amazon cart, but geeze I can’t afford to really buy it.

To cover it with pavers or patio would be even more expensive.

I guess it’s about 1200 square foot total, but I only need to cover about 600 square feet of that.

The Big Guy will eat mulch, so that’s out.

ANY suggestions short of giving them away??

I have no idea. I used to have a dog. We fenced in an area with carnahann fencing about 20 x 30 feet and let the dog run and play and poop there.

However, she spent much of her time indoors, so the grass was never totally destroyed.

Sorry I don’t know more.
