Plausible.

Considering how carefully targeted and limited the strike was and how it was on the outskirts and Trump gave the Syrians a 'heads-up', it seems this attack was meant for show (or as you say, to drive out ISIS and take them out).

'Trust the plan'?

It all depends when we find out what the plan was and did it achieve the desired goal?
