Just got done exploring more than I will never need to know about Vanuatu.
By far, of the two, the more interesting alternate universe...
Movin' right along...
I got in a lot of trouble because of Vanuatu.
When he was real young, say 6 or 7, one of my sons used the business phone in my home office without my knowledge to call some “sports information hotline” he had seen on TV. It turned out it was routed through Vanuatu, and he ran up a long distance phone bill of hundred of dollars. There’s some scam where they connect you to a fly-by-night phone company that charges you outrageous rates for the long-distance call.
I knew nothing about it until I got a very irate telephone call from my employer, wanting to know why I had made an unauthorized frivolous personal call to Vanuatu in violation of company policy.
At that point, I didn’t even know what “Vanuatu” was and I was just fumbling on the phone and couldn’t give any explanation (I figured it out later). I almost got fired over that. And I of course had to reimburse them for the call.
