A talkative Uber driver told me that she always calls the client first to see where they are going. If it isn’t enough money she won’t take the call. (They don’t know where you are going until you get into the car.) She said that none of them would take any calls from FSU, as the students wanted a ride down the street for a dollar or two and it often took twenty minutes just to drive to the pickup point. They pay their own gas.
I did have to take a cab recently and it cost twice what an Uber cost. The cabby paid $70 per day for the use of the cab and paid his own gas. I asked him if he actually made money and he said, “most days.”
Does Uber and Lyft not have a minimum charge to even get in the car? Taxis effectively do.
I used Uber half a dozen times in NYC at Christmas and the driver always knew the destination and had it in his GPS before we got into the car.
Driving for Lyft/Uber is like a box of chocolates
You don't know who you will pick up
You don't know how to get there
And when you drop them off you don't know where the h@ll you are.
In any case driving a Prius can engage Ludicrous drive (power option) and burn rubber all the way to the destination.
I play senior softball with a low intelligence guy who was a career cab driver who echoes the same sentiment. They're also at the mercy of the company's dispatcher who will only assign fares to the driver who gives the most kick backs to them..........
Uber will let you put in your destination to quote you a fare before you order the ride. I am sure the drivers see it.
