WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. law enforcement agencies have seized the sex marketplace website Backpage.com as part of an enforcement action by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to a posting on the Backpage website on Friday.
A Phoenix FBI official said that there was “law enforcement activity” on Friday at the Sedona, Arizona home of Michael Lacey, one of the founders of Backpage.

Exactly my sentiments. This has little to do with “sex trafficing.” It’s al about control.
I’ve not used an escort’s service as far as I’m aware if thats what you’re getting at. I have seen government powers granted by one side used against them when the other side got into power or remained in power in this case.
It seems to me that over the past decade or so the business of prostitution has been rebranded with the far more sinister-sounding label "sex trafficking" and with it the implication that all the women involved are "sex slaves" forced into it against their will and all the men who use prostitutes are deviant predators. The truth, of course, is often different. Most women know exactly what business they are getting involved in and men have been using prostitutes for a thousand different reasons since the beginning of time.
Not going to cheer government extending control over the internet.
As long as prostitution remains illegal, the government can't get their cut. As such, they can't allow businesses like backpage.com to make money off of it.
The government and their fascist “private” oligarchs are taking full control over the internet. Facebook, youtube, Google, Twitter...etc.
This is just another chapter of that. And as always, “it’s for the children”. Every civil rights abuse is for “the children”.
Nevermind how many other ways they trash our children.
