My grandfather was First Lieutenant/Damage Control Officer on the Bunker Hill when it was kamikazied during that battle.That was some horrendous duty. Dad was awarded the Purple Heart when he was hit by a sniper on Okinawa. Fortunately, the sniper's aim wasn't perfect.

My Dad was on an Escort there.
Like most he hardly talked about his war service. But once we were talking about Kamikazes and I said that they must not have worried him since they were supposed to go for the big ships.
LOL! I was very young but I still remember that look he gave me.
