That line has been bothering me as well. Is it benevolent or not. Is it a threat? Or more of a taunt? Are we living the "Matrix" or "The Truman Show"?
Maybe I spend to much time thinking about things. I think about whether it is a blessing or a curse to be curious. Is it a blessing or a curse to think about things? Would it be a better life to just work, eat and sleep and just live in the moment, never giving any thought to anything more that the next thing to do, eat, drink.
I have known people like that. Are they happier? Who is happier(if that really is a thing), the smart, the dull or the sheeple?
A liberal leaning Sister once told me to keep things simple. I apparently don't have the ability to do that.
