It's rumored that Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) is looking to occupy the vacant stores of bankrupt Toys R Us. Having played a large role in the toy retailer's demise, Amazon now wants to acquire the toy store's skeletal remains to expand its own brick-and-mortar footprint across the country.

Our neighborhood hardware store is much the same. Beats Home Depot hands down.
I think you’re right. With a very minimal manned box store Amazon can reach out to much larger targets.
Order a car and go pick it up at Amazon “R” Us.
....Now you have to make stores look inviting, well merchandised, staffed, check outs, etc. All that requires staff, additional supply chain etc....

We went to Amazon’s new (at the time) brick and mortar store, in NYC, over the holidays.
Not much to see, there. Reminded me of the original Barnes and Noble stores.
The displays were boring, categories seemed displaced and the check out system was awkward.
I was selling more of their promotional Dots, just while standing in line, than their non-manned display came close to doing. The associates weren’t even mentioning the sale/promo!!
This story (buying out TRU space) reminds me of the You’ve Got Mail or Shop Around the Corner movie/story.
I wonder how those AZN locker rooms are working out. I never choose that option.
Maybe if you live in an apt building, and it’s in your building. I’ve read where they are going to start that. But, not where I have to go out of my way to get to.
We’ve Ace Hardware here as well. Some are exceptional and others are stores one would never seek a return trip.
In Dallas there was once a hardware store in the Oak Lawn area of town. Named “Elliott’s” That store was so outstanding. The persons working were as helpful as they could be. The merchandise displayed and when anything new was introduced, you would be certain to find it in that store. In past years Elliott’s became Ace Hardware and must have moved to greener pastures or Completely closed their doors. After moving from Dallas, we lost track. The Ace Hardware in this small town now, is not much to write home about. They have opened a new one on the nearby highway, but not visited as yet.
Best Buy is an example of a retailer who fought Amazon and for now has won.
They match or beat the Amazon price on big ticket items like 4K TV’s and Smart Refrigerators, with zero percent financing and free delivery.
Ever since Amazon has been forced to charge sales, tax there is no upside to ordering a $2,500 dollar Refrigerator or a $5,000 4K TV from Amazon.
If Amazon wants to move into brick and mortar, it’s Best Buy that should be worried.
There is no sense in having a store that sells toys open during the work week during business hours (no customers).
Toys R Us couldn’t sustain the overhead once online shopping became routine.
Amazon faces a real danger that people will say enough is enough and not patronize any brick and mortar stores they put into place.
This guy Bezos needs to fire whoever came up with this stupid idea..
There’s an Elliott’s in Casa Linda right next to El Fenix. There’s also one still in downtown Mesquite near that old Whataburger.
Thank you. I’d heard they had moved sometime after we moved from the city. When the one on Oak Lawn was standing, it was just around the corner from us and often visited. Hardware stores aren’t normally my cup of tea, but this store...one might spend an afternoon just browsing the shelves. Top Notch merchandise. So many items found there seldom found any where else.
One day, when I get “a roundtoit” perhaps we make it a point to visit the newer location. Know exactly the area of which you speak. Once lived in that part of town as well.

Either that, or we will end up with ONLY Amazon for our buying choices.
Amazon makes the most profit and income from their data services, AWS. They have over half of the market, more than Microsoft, IBM, Verizon and all the others combined. They don’t care if they lose money in other sectors. They need the write off.
Brick and Mortar will tank them.
So good news if you dont like them, bad if you do.
Supply warehouses are one thing. Customer stores are totally different. The whole point of amazon is you dont have to go anywhere to order something and it gets delivered to you.
I’ve been in many neighborhoods where ToysRUs have been.
Naming those stores “Amazon” is a joke that writes itself.
