A lot of these women will end up lonely, sad, and bitter. They will have no family when their sitting alone dying in a nursing home. No husband. No children. No grandchildren. No one to visit. No one to care.
My family and I were very involved in nursing home ministries in New York City back in the 90’s. What you said about alone and dying in a nursing home could not be more true.
My young children walking among them and talking to them was, and I know how to use this word, literally a life giving moment for the residents. Eyes would start to shine, voices would start to be used, and people who had not moved from a wheelchair in months would find the strength to go to where the kids were.
