I had an R51. It had just about every possible malfunction a semiautomatic pistol could have. I called and emailed Remington trying to get it resolved, but never got a reply. I’ll never buy another Remington product, not even their ammo. By the way, I am VERY satisfied with my Mossberg 500.
The announcement was back in February, and the actual filing itsownself was yesterday, it would appear.
You are right.Gun guys should run gun companies, car guys should run car companies, etc. When the green eye shades take over is check and mate. Like the pre and post ‘64 Model 70, pre-Remington Marlin take over, pre and post pinned garrel S&W. I only buy the pre’s.
“Too Bad. They made some fine firearms in the past.”.......
I doubt they will disappear from the market completely. Filing for “bankruptcy” does NOT mean they will close for good.
I have no Remington guns but their UMC ammo can’t be beat.
No the Sandy Hook killer used a Sig 226 and a Glock 20. The Bushmaster was left in the car trunk.
I think somewhere in the 1980s...their ‘fine’ period of gun manufacturing came to an end. They cheapened their line enough, and by the late 1990s...they were the ‘K-Mart’ of the gun market. In their mind, they could still attract some of the older guys to come in and spend money, but I think the younger guys asked questions....demanded quality, and they just couldn’t make it in today’s market.
Seems like there were rumors about this a while ago, so I’m not surprised. My first thought was that maybe the reorganization will allow them to continue and become profitable again. It saddens me: my first gun (52 years ago!) was a little single shot Remington .22. I still have it, and shoot it on occasion. More recently, I enjoy my R-1911. It is not, as another poster said, “a terrible” gun. It has been rock solid reliable in the 5 years or so I’ve owned it. This irrational mania for gun control will hopefully pass, too, Everybody chill!
Remember, Savage is part of a massive private equity group also. Some of the later offerings are not what I would call “great”. Workmanship has declined, sloppy mating of steel and stock, and just a rough finish (and Savages were SUPPOSED to be rough).
I just bought my dream Marlin. I would hate to lose that. However I suspect that line will be among the first to be sold.
It will be interesting if the decline of the 2nd amendment in the USA is because of poor corporate stewardship.
I have an “old” Kimber Classic II 1911 (from about 2000).
Solid gun. Accurate, eats everything, and rarely locks up. Then they got big, went cheap, and now I would not pay the price for them. Still good guns, but there are better at that price point.
Same with the R1911. Not bad, not great, nothing special
If Marlin gets sold off that might be a good thing. Could go the other way too, of course, lever guns ain’t trendy these days.
I’m not into them myself, but one would hate to see people lose the choice.
Yes.
Don't every assume the media is interested in facts, just mind control.
Interesting. So, why are the parents suing Remington?
Anti-gun activism lefty pukes. Looks like a frivolous suit which will get tossed.
I've been there, and it is a reassuring item to hold in your hands when you have unexpected visitors during the night. [Fortunately, I did not have to pull the trigger.]
While eating lunch out of curiosity found this. Dont know if its correct or not. You might want to do your own research....
According to the report, Lanza used exclusively used a Bushmaster Model XM15-E2S semiautomatic rifle during the massacre at the school, which was over less than 11 minutes after it began. In that short time period, Lanza killed 20 first-grade students and six adults.
Lanza was also found to be carrying two handguns on his person, though, and a semiautomatic Saiga shotgun was found in the trunk of the car he drove to the school.
According to the report, the only time any of those three firearms was fired was when Lanza turned a Glock 20 pistol chambered for 10mm cartridges on himself and took his own life.
It was the Glock 20 that he used on everyone then himself. It makes a real mess much more than a 5.56 mm. This was all written for political posturing on AR-15s.
