The Capsaicin in the pepper plants, is the culprit it affects the brain, latching on to the receptors on the tounge. Milk or sour cream is somewhat of an antidote. It may be the plants way of protecting itself, from what I’ve read.

It is, the milder you get the more susceptible it is to disease.

And it seems to latch on to mine for dear life and refuses to let go! LOL

I'd forgotten that about milk, which is in gravy. Not sure about deviled eggs because I only put in mayo and a little pickle juice when creaming the yolks. Maybe something in the yolks? I dunno, but I always sprinkle a little black pepper on top because that's what my mama did. :)
