Iirc Bolton was nominated for something and had to withdraw so he was appointed ambassador of UN that didn’t need senate approval. Don’t remember why he can get a cabinet job.

he was appointed ambassador of UN that didn’t need senate approval. During the Fox interview, McCallum said Bolton was being stalled as UN Ambassador and was a recess appointment. Bolton did not correct her.
Pretty sure UN Ambassador requires Senate advice and consent. :)
