A 9-year-old boy fatally shot his 13-year-old sister Saturday (March 17) in northeast Mississippi after she refused to hand over a video game controller, The Clarion-Ledger reports.
Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell told the Jackson, Mississippi, newspaper the boy is accused of shooting his sister in the back of the head with a .25 caliber handgun.
The girl was rushed to Le Bonheur's Children's Hospital in Memphis where she died Sunday at 6:45 p.m.
Authorities don't yet know how the child had access to the weapon they say he used to shoot his sister. It's also unclear how much knowledge the boy had of the dangers of guns.
"Hes just 9. I assume hes seen this on video games or TV," Cantrell said. "I don't know if he knew exactly what this would do. I cant answer that. I do know its a tragedy."

Some commonsense video game laws are clearly needed here.
"...9 years old..."
The next FReepathon begins in just two weeks.
We need to finish this one first.
Come on FReepers, let’s do this!!!
BAN AR-15’S!!!!
Mandatory waiting period for video game controllers and strict age limits and licensing for use.
CCW needs to be freed up so these weps don’t get left where prying eyes and hands of mischief will want to venture.
“Dijonae White”.
OK, when I saw it was a .25 cal handgun, I had suspicions this was a drug-dealer’s house. Now I’m beyond suspicious and into fairly sure.
Bet she wishes she gave him the controler.
Brother’s name, Lemonjelo...
Yep. There have been a lot of stolen .25s out there in special neighborhoods for well over 40 years. They were the number one choice of drug dealers for a long time.
Reminds me of a distopian movie that Charlton Heston starred in.
Too bad the clarionledger can not be posted here. The article had a lot more info. There were red flags everywhere. Live in boy friend, multiple kids in the dwelling, they did not even know the kid’s age.
My dad was police officer and would dump his gun and belt on the coffee table, likely loaded. None of us ever touched it. We had been taught gun safety, had been taught right and wrong, etc. Never an issue.
The kid's death is squarely on the parents. Blood on their hands. Kid has to be charged, so do the parents.
And I bet the kid has issues anyway. Likely best to convict and take him out and execute him. Save everyone a lot of grief in the future.
I will never understand how women with children in the home allow disreputable boyfriends to move in. Too many times we read of children and babies injured or beaten to death by these losers who should never be around children. Obviously this child knew where the gun was kept and probably had no parental instruction regarding never touching guns. No matter, it should have not been accessible.
Why are there so many suppositions going on in these posts? Kind of like “assuming facts not in evidence.” Where did you see from that little release that a boyfriend lived in the house? So many here are so fast to jump to conclusions and judgment...on any and all subjects - regardless of their expertise in none! They all seem so superior and none of these tragedies would ever happen to them because they do everything the right way. SURE!

Not the right color for lemon.
Should be Chocolatepuddin
