The first language is hard. The second language is harder because all the things that you took as writ in stone suddenly change. By the third, you know to look for patterns. How do you do a loop? After that, it’s a piece of cake.
EVERYONE used to design their own. That’s why Jean Sammet’s book was called Tower of Babel. In the contest to design the DoD common language, everyone had to program in it plus they kept TWO of their own languages. Army just had one - TACPOLE - because it was the only language they could find that was used in two different programs. So it became the Army Standard Language.
