The overall tone of this L A Times article is predictably hostile.

Liberals can secede but conservatives can’t.

Got it.

Downstate Illinois would like to borrow the axe when they’re finished with it.

RE: big dreams for cleaving the state

OK, How’s this going to work, practically?

There has been a movement for Long Island to secede from New York State for some time, see here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Island_(proposed_state)

Nothing ever comes out of it.

Anybody with half a mind should be hostile to this BS. The chance of breaking up California or any state is less than zero. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN and every second or penny spent on it is complete pathetic waste of time. Spend time fixing the state as no one will ever buy off on splitting it up.

If this ever happened, and it’s a safe bet that it won’t, conservatives in other parts of the state (and they’re there) would be more outnumbered by the liberals than ever.

Why Jefferson? Why not Reagan?

Create Jefferson, I bet it’ll have a better economy than California in 2 years...

The way it’s been looking lately, the batshit crazy california government wants to make california into mexico’s 32nd state.

It’s hard to say how this will pan out. The socialist-democrats have a stranglehold on the state government, and are making laws that put the illegals above the citizens of the US.

Several states then need to be broken up, so that we have an equal, divisible number of Reps and Senators. I don't like the idea of having an odd number of states.

In addition to CA, Upstate NY, Downstate IL, and maybe Upper Michigan should be their own states too.
