Clodfelder, Michael (2002). Warfare and Armed Conflicts – A Statistical Reference to Casualty and Other Figures, 1500–2000. McFarland & Co. p. 582 - note this is all killed, not just KIA and includes Pacific theater (including for the benefit of the next guy wearing a pro-Tojo shirt).

#50. Clodfelder’s figures only show up for the Coast Guard at the Wikipedia site for the search term “American World War 2 casualties by theater” UNLESS THE FOOTNOTE INCLUDES MORE THAN JUST THAT SERVICE].

The Wikipedia long article on this cites two studies that give US casualties by KIA, WIA, MIA and non-combat losses.

The total US KIAs for WW2 in the Wikipedia piece and two articles at “QUORA” range from 407,000 to 417,000, and as low as 292,131 (combat deaths only).

One breakdown (VALENTINE’S) had it as Pacific Theater KIAs = 111,606, 253,142 Wounded (including my father-in-law at Iwo), 21,580 POWS.

Atlantic and European theater KIAs = 183,582 KIA & MIA; 560,240 wounded, 108,621 POWS.

HIS WOUNDED FIGURE SEEMS VERY HIGH. NEED TO CHECK IT.

POW deaths were 1,124 for Europe, 12,935 for the Pacific theater = 14,059.

Some of the figures do not match the 292,131 battle deaths in the Congressional Research Report “American War and Military Operations Casualties” updated, 2/26/2010.

I don’t know where Clodfelder got his figures as I have never seen his book. The 671,846 figure is listed as total US WOUNDED, not Killed by one of the articles.
I’m going to go back to Wikipedia and check on it.

Wikipedia, as mentioned, lists 292,131 COMBAT deaths.

WILL BE BACK IN A MINUTE.
