If Americans were beset by a similar enemy with total control of the air, that is exactly what we would seek and perhaps then a consensus would arise that the possession of such weapons is most certainly protected by the Second Amendment.
As for nuclear weapons, there is always the amendment process to change the Bill of Rights. If it took a nuclear weapon to free me and my loved ones from a tyrant, I would be completely justified in using it.
Our Founders would probably be very surprised that free people are so consistently allowing the government to mandate compulsory "education" at government schools and then are unwilling to protect those students as if they were their own children. That is government tyranny.
