Not sure if I believe that story. If it is true, that’s sick but pretty incredible that it was pulled off. I’m a terrible liar, but a convincing truth teller. If that happened to me and I couldn’t get the cops to believe me, I’d demand a polygraph to make sure of it.

you have no idea how domestic violence laws are applied in this country.

The poor guy would be cuffed and jailed PDQ. The knife would mean some extra charges. He‘d be looking at years and years of hard time. So signs a plea bargain to some lesser charge.

Now at family court anytime their is the slightest disagreement ( usually over child visitation ) - He is looked upon as a convicted violent criminal by the judge.

1/3 of cop calls are for domestic violence. Every time cops are called for DV, they haul one person to jail.

You’d be surprised at how many of your buddies have DV records.

I had to bail out a buddy of mine 5 years ago for domestic violence ( crazy GF just said he was stalking her ). His saga was illuminating

“I’d demand a polygraph to make sure of it.”

Laff.

Why would the police think a polygraph is needed? They witnessed the husband holding the knife. What they saw matched the wife’s accusation. No county is going to spend $10K when their case is a slam dunk. Even if the husband took a private polygraph and passed it’s inadmissible in most jurisdictions.

Polygraphs are tools of the Prosecution. Counties only spend the funds on them when they need to narrow down who to prosecute. The goal of a polygraph is to get a confession since polygraph results are inadmissible.
