Good to see the National Review has found it’s Never Trump, Trump hating ground again. Dopes.
National Review totally gone. Pity.
When you hold an economic ideology that is a detriment to the economic well being and security of the country and the constitutional freedoms of Americans, you need to adjust your ideology. We currently have evolved a nasty National and international oligarchy.
That wooshing sound Perot spoke of happened, and Trump is trying to put the genie back in the bottle. He also said open economic globalism would be a rush to the bottom for workers and benefits. This has happened. Our middle class was disappearing under Bush and Obama.
Our steel industry is drying up and we are dependent on China for steel. It is second rate in quality and can be cut off in the time of war leaving us hanging out to dry. We need our own steel industry. That is just one example.
I can see industry protection via tariffs is necessary and I understand and dread the unions organized around these industries. They kept leftists in power and prices high. So I understand and agree with President Trump’s concerns, but I worry about the bad old union days. Unlike the past States have “right to work” laws that challenge the power of union bosses.
As far as a trade war, I doubt the globalists are going to blow themselves up because the US is doing something for itself for a change. This is a knee jerk reaction of global power ideologists and the global oligarchs. Other Nations face the same kind of problems with “free trade” which ignores National interest and will have more freedom to help their economies and people.
