I would explain to anyone saying that, "No, guns are to protect innocent people from mortal danger."
And then lecture them about why police carry guns, why soldiers carry guns, and how guns are used to protect people from animals, violent criminals, and armed agents of tyrannical governments.
And then if they still don't get it you can ask them if they would like you to forego saving them from violent death if necessary using a firearm. And then show them some videos made by ISIS.
