I hate headlines like this. Upon first reading, they sound like a statement of fact. After the semi-colon, you find out that its just some claim by an unrelated person or media outlet. Low information folks probably take it for fact, which is the goal of the disinformation media.
The Texans released an official statement denying it. It is fake news.
Whether this is a formally declared policy or not, any players who kneel for the anthem undeniably cost their team money. Angry fans will either boycott the league altogether, or at least tend to not buy tickets and gear, and also stop watching the NFL on TV. This all adds up to a tangible and non-trivial loss of revenue for everyone involved.
There's no doubt in my mind that many of the more well-managed and prudent teams will hesitate—or altogether avoid—signing players who are likely to engage in conduct detrimental to the team.
Such selfish players cost their team revenue, and they cause distraction and disunity in the locker room. Since winning games and making money are the main reason for having the team in the first place, an anthem-kneeler should make any competent management group hesitate to hire such a toxic employee.
