Marion Barry was a staunch proponent against Constitutional government. He particularly disliked the Second Amendment:

America, represented on the east coast by a status of Marion Barry and on the west coast by a statue of Harvey Weinstein on the Casting Couch. At the same time, lefties fight to tear down Washington & Lincoln.

That'd be self-admitted car thief Trayon White, who brags about how he "empowers people who suffer from the social impact of crime, violence, drug abuse. . ." and then praises a crackhead: one thug eulogizes another.
Up until 2010....I’d never been to DC ever.
I arrived that year and worked for 3.5 years in the local area. I’ve walked over different parts of the west-side, the central region, northeast, and the southeast (the Anacostia neighborhood). I’ve ridden the subway lines over the entire city.
I think most Americans would be in absolute shock at how DC city runs...the amount of corruption...violent crime...and acceptance of federal leadership.
Barry was simply a product of the ‘system’. The DC city council are a product of the system. Most everyone agrees that corruption is destroying the city, but there’s no desire to fix it.
One of the great examples of corruption: the city gave out a grant (somewhere in the $250,000 range) to a youth-recreation group to refurbish some building on the east-side. About two years after this grant, some reporter went back to look at various grants given out. The building in this case? Well...they painted the place up...put in some renovation...and it became a ‘gentlemen’s club’ (meaning a bar and strip-club). The youth-recreation group? Mostly fake. Punishment? None.
If only it was of him snorting coke.
I think this stautue should be treated with same respect the ststues of civil war generals were treated to by leftist vandals.
Now the pigeons can crap on someone who really deserves it “Crook for Life” Marion Barry.
By today’s standards, he would have gone to jail for beating his second wife Effie Barry and breaking bones in her face and her nose (according to a woman friend of Effie who saw her in the hospital in Baltimore).
I think the coverup story was that she had fallen and hit her face very hard on the ground or sidewalk.
No one will ever know how much dirty money and perks Barry got from friends during his reign but he would be in competition with the Clintons at today’s dollar rates.
Won’t even mention a Congressman’s investigation of Barry in 1970 concerning it being reported that he had taken a bunch of inner city kids to a leftist’s farm in northern Virginia for rifle practice.
The investigation was dropped when the congressman lost his re-election campaign to a newcomer leftist liberal.
The only thing that should be made to honor his “dishonor” would be a gigantic pot-hole (not pophead which he was) that keeps getting filled and refilled like it was part of “Groundhog Day”.
Well, a lease some pigeons are going to enjoy his statue. As they say in the Middle East, “Piss be upon you, Marion, and the more the merrier”.
