A civil war will easily hit those kind of numbers

We lost 620,000 soldiers in our first civil war, and the US population is more than ten times what it was in 1860. I'm guessing the numbers in the next go around would be much higher than a mere 7 million that would be proportionate losses, even disregarding civilian deaths from starvation and cold arising from disrupted commerce.
