Many decades ago because of a lack of a near by pharmacy and greed a few MDs bought RX drugs and dispensed them.
That meant that only the drugs, they had on their shelves would be used when patients’s problems indicated that there were many options.
With the exceptions of injectable drugs with good mail in pharmacies, there is basically no need for a doctor to buy and dispense any drugs. Many/most of those pharmacies will fill a doctor’s rx via internet, faxes and just by a phone call.
