Connie Nachbor - she mostly taught English. Did she ever bring her fencing gear ? Always wondered if Miss Nachbor was the reason 8 out of 15 girls in my class become lesbians-bisexual. Here is her obit

Literally little house on the prairie.
1960 boonies Minnesota.
Grades 1-12 in the same classroom,
potbellied wood burning stove in the
exact center.
We walked thru the coat room to get
to the main classroom. The smell
of homemade bread permeated the
place.
The amazing thing is we all got
along with each other.
Our school bus was a 1938 Buick.
That thing never did get stuck
in the snow...

Interesting...

I too lived in PA. and attended one room/two room schools with out door plumbing.
for my first three years and in my fourth year, the best thing happened to my family.., we moved to Cleveland Ohio...
I attended 4,5,6 grade at Scranton Elementary School..now that location is an Interstate High Way.. Then for 7th grade I went to Lincoln High School, just down the road a bit..then we moved again and for 8 and 9 grade I attended Thomas Jefferson Jr. H.S. and then one more move and 10,11,12 grade I attended Lincoln again... and graduated from there in 1961..

Now that I'm old, retired, I left OHIO to return to PA..Somerset County, only because my pay check, wanted to move back to the COUNTRY...I could easily relocate any where with a snap of the fingers...but hubby still likes this rural area...so here I am...LOL...

You are right on that. The number of unwed couples having babies is astonishing...and they may just live together forever, or maybe split up, or maybe even get married. “Choices”

K-6, small class sizes, public but it might as well have been private.

Google street view now shows a sign for a school with a different name, and none of the original school buildings.

It's all unrecgonizable. Well, almost. One little palm tree I used to like has done very well for itself, and is now towering over the neighborhood.

We recited the Pledge every morning, too, standing at attention.

Our school clocks had the second hand that jerked from second to second and then the minute had jerked to the next minute. I remember staring at that clock during class and thinking “It’s never going to move.”

Kindergarten through sixth grade a bit outside of Philadelphia - Miss Price introduced us to the wonders of biology in kindergarten with a little red hen which sat on a nestfull of eggs until they actually hatched into a bunch of the cutest chicks that we got to help feed and watch grow - and Mrs. Schmitt in first grade played this most amazing piece of music for us - called Morning Mood by some guy named Grieg which I liked so much that I wanted to hear some more of those kinds of tunes whenever I got the chance, and to this day can't get enough "classical" music......
