I was a sophomore in high school at the time but do remember the explosion. Here in eastern Minnesota, I don’t recall a lot of ash fall but do remember the sunsets were more vivid than usual for a while.
We got about 4" of ash where I was living in Northern Idaho. Used a snow shovel and then a broom to clear it off my driveway. Want to wear a mask over your nose and mouth if you ever have to move ash or you will have some really dirty boogers.
