Neptune has a similar white spot that is also shrinking. Sunspot activity is at a nadir in its cycle. We know solar activity drives the weather on earth, so my estimation is that solar cycles play into the expansion and shrinkage of Great Spots on Jupiter and Neptune.

I doubt that the planetary scientists know enough about the history, structure & underlying mechanisms of the Great Red Spot to draw any serious conclusions about the spot “disappearing within our lifetimes.” This article is not science, is “pop science”, which is not the same thing.

Well, given that the GRS (ooh, I can hang with the cool astronomer kids now) wasn’t always there, I suppose it’s inevitable that it will eventually disappear.

We on this planet should be so concerned! Quick, throw trillions of dollars to Jupiter's direction. We
MUST save the planet.
Global Warming.
First conclusion here as well.

If we give credence to Immanuel Velikovsky’s theory that like the legend, the planet Venus sprang from Jupiter, then the Great Rad Spot could be the place where the proto-planet emerged.
