Perhaps it might make you feel better to find out that the show was cancelled because Katic wanted equal billing. And Nathan Fillion said no. At least that’s what the tabloids said ; )

Apparently, the two of them can’t stand each other. They were considering killing her off and continuing without her, but changed their minds at the last minute—hence the tacked-on happy ending.
