The United States has won at least 25 Winter Olympic medals at each of the last four Games. With one week to go in Pyeongchang, the Americans have visited the podium just 10 times and are on pace to post their lowest medal count at Winter Games since 1998.
After winning 13 medals each at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics and 1998 Nagano Olympics, Team USA medal totals at Olympic Winter Games increased exponentially. First, it was 34 trips to the podium in 2002 at Salt Lake City. Then, 25 medals at Turin in 2006. A record 37 Winter Olympic medals followed at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and 28 more in Sochi four years later.
Have the American athletes performed below expectations? Or have they not had the opportunity to medal yet?
The answer is a little bit of both.

And the reason I should care about this is?
Blame it on NBC. They stiff armed the Vice President, and oogled, and ahhs over two men who are lovers, and some of us lost our interest.
Perhaps if they focused more on selecting the best people for the team and less on filling political correctness quotas they might have more success, but then what do I know?
US Speedskating’s (LT) going to get blanked again.
Total disaster.
Every time I try to watch it’s women’s this and women’s that.
I like to watch the men.
Bingo!
I just watched one of the US Bobsled teams consisting of some black guy with a Muzzie sounding name look like total crap, and they are currently 24th after two runs. Pathetic.
The goal isn’t to win medals. The goal is to celebrate diversity. So go cheer for the fags and hags and assorted minorities picked for affirmative action rather than ability.
Or perhaps the athletes are just taking a dive because they don’t want to get invited to the White House.
Based on what the athletes have said, I do not feel like this team represents our country. They’re certainly not representing me. Many represent themselves and their agendas, but I’m pretty sure they would hate me.
Also, can we win in some real snow sports like downhill skiing, ski jumping, hockey, cross country, skating? I don’t consider snowboarding on a “half pipe” or “freestyle” skiing anything but showboating.
I enjoy watching the Olympics but Im not tied to USA winning all the time. We have lots of great athletes. Im ok with the best teams or individuals winning. Its ok if its not always us.
yup...and all the guys, or in this case gays, who NBC forced on everyone have been awful in these Olympics...they kept the centerpiece on Adam Rippon when he was the third American on a three man American team...meanwhile Nathan Chen had a historic performance in the long program and NBC was like, “oh yeh- here’s Nathan”...
Gus Kentworthy, who was Rippon’s buddy in blasting Mike Pence, and someone who degrade the American Flag, was 12th out of 12 in yesterday’s ski slope final...
they keep pushing Lindsay Vonn, another anti-Trumper...
That, and our athletes seem to be a pack of mouthy brats, between the homo skater, Lindsey Vonn, and the skating "coin flips are racist" asshat.
“I just watched one of the US Bobsled teams consisting of some black guy with a Muzzie sounding name look like total crap, and they are currently 24th after two runs. Pathetic.”
That was pathetic, and it looks like they’ve got a sled that’s worth millions.
Meanwhile the Canadians have a sled from the 70’s and they’re in 2nd.
I know, I know, go back to November and elect Hillary Clinton.
I care!
Norway has 26 medals. Norway—a snarky socialist country of 5.3 million.
We have 330 million in the US and Norway is kicking our @sses. How humiliating.
The great bobsled pilot Steve Holcomb died last May. Left a big hole in our prospects for bobsled medals.
Adam Rippon took Gay Mafia mean queen bullying to a new level. Of course, NBC lapped it up.
So. The US has never exactly been a Winter Olympics powerhouse.
And don’t forget a lot of those athletes that compete for other countries, actually live and train here in the US.
I like good competition, period, and at this point I really don’t care where they’re from.
