The charges are 40 years old.

Per an article I read in First Things or Crisis, they've pretty much determined that it was utterly physically impossible for Pell to have abused the boys the way that one of them (now in his fifties, I believe) said that he did. That's probably going to be his defense. It was fascinating reading.

If I remember correctly, the other boy died (as an adult), and insisted before he died that they had lied about Pell abusing them. The prosecution is going ahead with it anyway. Idiots.

There are also an incredible number of suppression orders about this case. It is interesting that both witnesses say that they were sexually abused by other offenders - but we are not allowed to know anything about these cases, or even if they ever went to trial.

Regardless of how justified the charges may,or may not,be 40 years is a long time ago.If I were on such a jury I just might be reluctant to vote “guilty” simply because there's no way to know what's happened to the accuser(s) and witnesses in those 40 years.
