At a certain point, it’s not a matter of “doing” anything in particular; it’s a matter of setting a “social mood” that steers your society and your people in the right direction. If you are associated with a bad social mood, then it’s time to step aside, even if the effects of that mood are not your “fault” in some direct sense. It’s not the “fault” of the rotten bough that it can’t support its own weight anymore, but it is rotten and failed all the same.
Then every politician in the whole world should step aside.
