Woman climbs into x-ray machine because she didn’t want to leave her bag

This is the moment a passenger climbed into an x-ray machine because she did not trust train security staff with her handbag.

An unbelievable photograph shows the women on all fours on a conveyor belt as she follows her bag as it passes through the security scanner.

It is thought the woman did not want to be separated from her bag and its contents at Dongguan Railway Station in China’s southern Guangdong Province.

And while it is unclear what she was carrying in her handbag it is likely to have been wads of cash traditionally given as a gift for Chinese New Year.

The woman had happily put her suitcases through the machine before walking through the security checkpoint holding the smaller handbag.

But security staff told her this bag would also have to be checked and so she reluctantly wheeled back round and placed it on the conveyor belt.

But officers were stunned when she started to climb on herself and were left so speechless they did not stop her as she collected her bags and rushed to get her train.

Dongguan Railway Station staff have advised passengers not to ride the X-ray machines saying radiation given off by the scanners can be harmful.

Security x-rays are designed to look for metal obejcts and only go through a few centimeters of material, they are much less powerful then medical x-rays.

Its why the staff operating them aren’t hiding behind a led screen

In the “old days” when shoe stores had xray machines to help fit feet to shoes, my sister and eye used to amuse ourselves by looking at xrays of our feet, exposing ourselves to the radiation for minutes at a time with no interference from the shoe salesman.

As another poster pointed out, airport scanners are different from medical x-rays. Even if we assume the worst bodily exposure of 7 mSv for a CT scan, it's much lower than the permitted exposure per year for a US radiation worker.

Considering this is China, I'd bet her health is on par with a 60+ year old pack-a-day smoker with exposure to pollution. Terminal x-rays are a walk in the park.

Candid Camera did a gag years ago where Funt played an airport security guy and told travelers that “new regulations” required them to hop up on the belt and ride through the xray machine.

So, did they get a radiologist go over the X-ray and check for abnormalities?

Why waste a perfectly good X-ray scan?

It wasn’t as sexy as I thought it might be . . . unless you’re into bones and skulls.

But didn't she receive such a dose at least once per SECOND? This is essentially X-Ray VIDEO. Isn't there a equivalent "frame rate"?

Someone else in the thread pointed out that this isn’t a full-blown X-ray. If you notice there’s no shielding of the employees around the equipment like you would see in a clinical setting. It’s designed to detect specific inanimate things, not penetrate the body with any level of detail.
