Rachel Weisz, who is married to James Bond (Daniel Craig), doesn’t think the next 007 should be played by a woman.
“[Author Ian Fleming] devoted an awful lot of time to writing this particular character, who is particularly male and relates in a particular way to women,” the Oscar-winning actress told The Telegraph this week. She continued, “Why not create your own story rather than jumping on to the shoulders and being compared to all those other male predecessors? Women are really fascinating and interesting and should get their own stories.”

Anyway, once characters enter the public domain, they become public property.

I don’t know if anyone here has actually read the Ian Fleming novels but Bond is a WWII vet! It’s time to let him go to Old Spies Home and cheer on a new younger MI6 wunderkind. This way he can be black, blue, green (anything but white!) LBGTxyz romping stomping UK hero.
If the Hollywood types had any creative brains, they would simply create new characters in the mold of James Bond and make those new characters whatever race or sex they wanted. In fact, they could even use the “007” franchise to do it. Idris Elba could be “008” and some woman could be “009”, or some such thing. They could even do crossover movies with 007 and 008 and 009 all in the same movie, then each having their own, just like Marvel does with their superhero movies. But, alas, Hollywood has long been bereft of any ideas even remotely original.

I read all the Bond novels at least those written by Fleming.
If they want to make spy movies set int the present, they could do so but don’t call them Bond Movies.
“M” should be the old British Naval Captain. The head of the KGB should be evil, not some avuncular, likeable foil to “M”.
They should be set in the cold war era as the novels were. Bond should carry a PPK in .32 ACP. and drive an old Bentley.
How is changing any of that better?
