United States Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Visits Hanoi
United States Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on August 11 concluded an official visit to Hanoi, where she met with senior government officials, including Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to discuss the rule of law. She was accompanied by her daughter, Dr. Jane Ginsburg, who met with judicial officers, legal scholars and representatives of the private sector to discuss the intellectual property rights law. This year marks the 20th anniversary of normalized diplomatic relations between the United States and Vietnam. In addition to Prime Minister Dung, Justice Ginsburg met with Chief Justice of the Supreme Peoples Court Truong Hoa Binh and the newly appointed Council of Justices. Specifically, Chief Justice Binh hosted Justice Ginsburg for a dinner and the Supreme Peoples Court organized a roundtable discussion on the process by which the U.S. Supreme Court reviews cases. Vietnams new Supreme Peoples Court, which consists of the Chief Justice and 15 Deputy and/or Associate Justices was just appointed in July. While in Hanoi, Justice Ginsburg also held meetings and discussions with youth leaders who are members of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), local law students, scholars on the rule of law, and local media in Vietnam. After concluding her visit to Hanoi, Justice Ginsburg traveled to Ho Chi Minh City, the countrys financial capital. Justice Ginsburgs visit was sponsored by the Department of States U.S. Speakers Program. The trip was part of ongoing efforts to advance the Comprehensive Partnership launched in July 2013. PM Nguyen Tan Dung welcomes US Supreme Court Justice
(VOVworld) Vietnam will work closely with the US to implement effectively agreements reached by leaders of the two countries during Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trongs visit to the US. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung told US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in Hanoi on Monday, that the two courts should enhance cooperation, especially in judicial experience sharing and personnel training. The US Supreme Court Justice spoke highly of Vietnams achievements in judicial reform and legal system improvement, which help build strong, efficient, transparent, and democratic judiciary for protection of human rights and justice.
