Sorely missed, I'm sure 😢
Missed for sure. He taught me how to farm, ride horses, operate equipment, drive, fly airplanes, weld and cut steel.
Good looks can be a curse. He confided to me after he and my mother divorced (I was 23 then), that “sometimes the women just come on like gangbusters”. I knew it was true, for I had to tell girls in my high school to quit following him around at the Friday night football games.
Parent teacher night 1988: my wife and I went to hear my oldest son’s second grade teacher fill us in on his progress. First we had to answer how my dad was, and then listen to a story: “I remember the first time I saw your dad. It was spring 1951. I said to myself, “There goes the handsomest man I ever saw’”.
I smiled and said, “yeah,.. uh,.. well, ..how is our son doing in your class?”
She quickly came back to earth and filled us in.
