The first movie I remember seeing in a theater had a black hero. Lando Calrissian, played by Billy Dee Williams, didnt have any superpowers, but he ran his own city. That movie, the 1980 Star Wars sequel The Empire Strikes Back, introduced Calrissian as a complicated human being who still did the right thing. Thats one reason I grew up knowing I could be the same. If you are reading this and you are white, seeing people who look like you in mass media probably isnt something you think about often. Every day, the culture reflects not only you but nearly infinite versions of youexecutives, poets, garbage collectors, soldiers, nurses and so on. The world shows you that your possibilities are boundless. Now, after a brief respite, you again have a President.

Garbage collectors? Is he joking??
As a kid who mainly saw movies at the drive in, I was always impressed by Woody Strode in “The Professionals” and “Spartacus”
Woody Strode was an exceptionally good actor.
“The Professionals” is one of the best westerns made. Interesting enough it was the only western Director Richard Brooks made in his entire career, but it was a great one and up for several Academy Awards that year. I believe it was one of Woody Strode’s favorite pictures and maybe the only one he ever did where his name was above the title with the other big stars. I love to watch it every time it comes on. All four of the main stars had great chemistry together.

It’s amazing there are not fewer shithole nations with a cast like this.
